Cabinet committee definition
Cabinet committees are groups of ministers that can make binding decisions for the government. They are created by the Prime Minister to reduce the burden of decision making on the Cabinet by enabling decisions to be taken by a smaller group of ministers. Their decisions have the same effect as if they were made by the Cabinet, and are subject to collective responsibility.
Cabinet committees are formed by subject, and their composition and terms of reference are a matter for the Prime Minister. They can include ministers who do not attend full Cabinet meetings.
Alongside the cabinet committees, implementation taskforces can be established to monitor and drive delivery.
